Schools Enrichment

Inspired by the amazing work of IkamvaYouth, Siyakhula is powering IkamvaYouth Gauteng and providing support for school learners with a particular focus on Maths, Science, Technology and English. IkamvaYouth is largely volunteer driven and achieving amazing results.

If you’re interested in volunteering email andrew@wearegrowing.org.

The programme is three-pronged, offering assistance to both learners and educators: a Mentoring and Career Guidance component; a Saturday Supplementary Tutoring component; and an Educator’s Support component.

Siyakhula’s Supplementary Tutoring Programme is designed for school-goers seeking to improve their school results (especially in English, Maths, Science) and become eligible for tertiary education. Supplementary tutoring takes place on Saturday mornings at Siyakhula. Learners bring the work they would like assistance with and volunteers (students and professionals) assist the learners in deepening their understanding of their school work. The emphasis is on supplementary rather than primary tuition and peer-to-peer education such that the learners are encouraged to assist each other wherever they can.

Siyakhula’s Career Guidance and Mentoring Programme aims to facilitate the transition each learner undertakes following matriculation. The primary objective of the programme is to ensure that each learner matriculates with a plan for their years after school.

Siyakhula’s Educator Support Programme is designed to help improve curriculum delivery – with a specific focus on Maths and Science - and offers assistance on a both a resource and motivational level.

Siyakhula recently supplied and delivered Micro-Science kits to two nearby High Schools in association with MArang Centre for Mathematics and Science Education at WITS and Radmaste. To view the Radmaste Report, click here.
